What is Responding to Relationships?

Responding to Relationships is relationship skills experience designed for and offered to responder and military couples.

How do we know if we are eligible to attend?

You must both be 18 years or older and one person in the partnership must be military (active duty or retired) or an emergency responder.

Who is it for?
Couples who are seriously dating, engaged, in a long-term partnership or married. We welcome all eligible couples, regardless of race, gender, age, disability, or religion.
What if we're not married?

RTR is offered to eligible couples who are seriously dating, engaged, in a long-term partnership, married. 

What will it be like?

The RTR experience is not therapy; it's not counseling. RTR is a relationship skills experience that is designed for you and your partner to be shoulder to shoulder, knees to knees and learn about skills and strategies that help you have a more robust toolbox and stronger relationship with each other, on the job, with family and friends, and in community. While the RTR experience can be therapeutic, it's not counseling. 

Will my partner and I be separated during the retreat?

No. The program does not include breakouts or small groups.  

If I've already attended a retreat, can I attend again?

Couples may attend one Marriage Series and Retreat per grant cycle (Current grant cycle: October 2020 - September 2025). If you have attended a retreat prior to October 2020, you are welcome to attend one series under our new HMRF grant. If you have questions about your eligibility, please email rtr@myrelationshipcenter.org.

All RTR events take place at The Hyatt Regency in Aurora.

How do I get there?

Participants are responsible for transportation to and from all events. If transportation might be a barrier for you, please email rtr@myrelationshipcenter.org.

How much does it cost?

Responding to Relationships is offered to eligible participants at no cost. The RTR experiences, content, and support is valued at over $2200 per couple.

What are my out-of-pocket costs?

RTR participants are responsible for cost of transportation to and from event + Saturday night “Date Night” outing (optional – planned by and paid for by participants). When you check-in to the hotel for the retreat, they will place a $50/night hold on your credit card for incidentals.

Are kids allowed to attend?

Childcare is available for the following Series:

  • Series 1: October 13 & November 10-12, 2023 
  • Series 2: December 1 & January 12-14, 2024
  • Series 4: April 5 & May 3-5, 2024
  • Series 5: June 21 & July 19-21, 2024
  • Series 6: August 16 & September 20-22, 2024
How many kids can I bring?

Space is limited to 3 children (under 12) per family and is subject to availability.

Who is the childcare provider?

Sitters with a Purpose, LLC (AKA Rock N Fun childcare LLC). A fully insured small business out of Colorado Springs that specializes in childcare for military. Learn more on Facebook @sitterswithapurposeClick here to view childcare COVID protocol.

Can we bring friends?

Please direct couples to the Responding to Relationships web page and encourage them to register.

Can I attend the kick-off to “try it out”?

RTR participants are required to follow the formal registration process and attend both the kick-off and weekend retreat. To learn more about RTR and determine if the program is a good fit, please email rtr@myrelationshipcenter.org.

What if something comes up and we are unable to attend the Kickoff event?

Participants are required to commit to both the kickoff event AND the weekend retreat prior to securing your registration.  If you are unable to attend both for any reason, you will be asked to find future series dates that work with your schedule. Please Note: Participants are not able to attend the retreat if they don't attend the kickoff workshop. 

What do I wear?

Colorado casual. Hotel Ballrooms are often chilly so please plan accordingly.

Where do we park?

Self-parking in the parking garage is available at no cost to participants. Please do not park in the temporary parking out front.  Upon departure, the security arm will be up. 

What’s the food situation?

Most meals are included with the program experience. Dinner for adults and children will be provided at the kick-off event. The following meals/times are provided at the weekend retreat: Friday Night- desserts and coffee, Saturday breakfast and lunch, Saturday dinner (kids only), Sunday breakfast. The following meals are NOT provided: Saturday “Date Night”.

Is alcohol served with RTR meals?

While alcohol is not included in any of the RTR provided meals, you are welcome to visit the hotel restaurant, Borealis, where drinks may be purchased.

What is Date Night?

Saturday night, you’ll have time for a night out (or night in) with your partner. For more details and “Date Night” ideas, click here. Childcare is available from 6pm – 10pm.

How do you accommodate special needs?
  • Dietary – while we do not offer customized menu options, we do offer a variety of food choices to accommodate for food sensitivities. Adults and individuals who have dietary restrictions, are encouraged to bring safe food options as a backup. You may always reach out to your Community Engagement Manager to share additional details if needed.
  • Physical – the hotel has 5 ADA guest rooms (based on availability).
  • Emotional support vs service animals – per local laws, service animals can stay at no charge. Emotional support – please contact the hotel directly 303.365.1234.
  • Childcare – if your child(ren) experience special needs, please discuss details and needs with your Community Engagement Manager
What if I have to cancel?

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact your Community Engagement Manager with as much notice as possible prior to the event date.

Can I get training hours for this?

Certificates of completion are available. Please contact your Community Engagement Manager for details.

Will onsite counselors be available?

Yes. A licensed counselor and a chaplain will be available on both Saturday and Sunday during the retreat. Instructions for how to engage will be provided in the retreat program.

Funding for this project is provided by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Grant: #90ZB0029. These services are available to all eligible persons, regardless of race, gender, age, disability, or religion.
