3. Positive Youth Development Approach

According to FYSB, a Positive Youth Development, or PYD, is based on a body of research suggesting that certain “protective factors,” or positive influences, can help young people succeed and keep them from having problems.

A positive youth development approach fosters and promotes: 

✔ Resilience 
✔ Social, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and moral competence 
✔ Self-determination 
✔ Self-efficacy 
✔ Clear and positive identity 
✔ Belief in the future 
✔ Recognition for positive behavior and opportunities for prosocial involvement 
✔ Prosocial norms (healthy standards for behavior) 

4. Equity and populations served

Definition: The consistent and systematic fair, just, and impartial treatment of all individuals, including individuals who belong to underserved communities that have been denied such treatment, such as Black, Latino, and Indigenous and Native American persons, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and other persons of color; members of religious minorities; LGBTQIA2S+ persons; persons with disabilities; persons who live in rural areas; and persons otherwise adversely affected by persistent poverty or inequality.
